The Twelve articles of the Creed are at the heart of catechesis because the Creed itself recapitulates "the mystery of God's plan" (Eph. 1:9-10; Col. 1:16; 20; 26-30). This plan unfolds gradually in Creation and our Redemption, allowing us to participate in Trinitarian life and love until God becomes "all in all" (I Cor. 15:28). When we make our profession of faith we express our belief in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as well as our complete adherence to all that God has revealed to us about Himself. Each time we recite the Creed we ascent fully to all that the Church teaches about God and about the human person who is created in the image and likeness of God, male and female, destined for eternal life. A thorough understanding of the Creed and deeper insight into the mysteries of the faith that are contained in it, as well as the ability to explain these well to others, is essential for all catechesis in this age of materialism, relativism and the unbelief of secularism. This course will provide you with an opportunity to deepen your understanding of these mysteries as you reflect upon them in light of the "Big Picture" of our Catholic faith! Having understood who God is as infinite love shared in a communion of three Divine Persons, and how Christ Jesus mediates divine life to fallen human beings through the grace of sacraments of the Church which He established by his death on the cross, His Resurrection from the dead, His Ascension and by sending the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, this course will explore the proper use of human freedom so that we can live our lives as children of God. We do this by conforming our lives to Christ in the Beatitudes, and by living fully the Ten Commandments. The parable of the sower highlights problems and difficulties which must be faced in the ‘soil’ in which the seed is sown. The soil represents individual souls in whom tensions and conflicts are present, as well as difficulties of living in this present world. Every catechist is also an evangelist who sows the seed of God's word, the seeds of faith and truth revealed by God, in the hearts and minds of others. This course will help you to master the principles and skills of an effective, evangelizing catechesis to help others to become committed disciples of Christ our King! We highly recommend this course for individuals and parish groups of teachers and catechists who would like to better understand the nature of ecclesial catechesis and the catechumenate process which is the model for all catechesis. It has two authors, the Holy Spirit and the person who wrote it. The Church gives us important principles for understanding and interpreting Scripture correctly. Catechists must know these principles and the eight stages of salvation history in the Old Testament. We highly recommend this course for both parish groups and individuals who are seeking to grow in their knowledge of sacred Scripture and the Grand Narrative of Salvation History which is recorded in the pages of the Old and New Testaments. With this confidence, we can understand that this purification is necessary and willed by God so that the Church can be made "without spot or wrinkle", as St. Paul says in Eph. 5:27. It may be that some of the Church's shepherds did not act in accord with the grace of God, and failed to disclose reports of clergy abuse of minors, or homosexual abuse of young adults and seminarians by priests or other bishops. Transparency and accountability are needed to restore the Church's integrity. This is what must now happen. As Scripture says, "let the judgment begin in the house of God" (I Peter 4:7). Catholic laity must strive to live holy lives and give witness through their words and actions to the truth of the Gospel. The media will continue to attack those in the Church who uphold the Church's teaching on marriage and God's gift of human sexuality. Those who call for chastity and sexual morality will be mocked. That will not change. But the truth will become more visible in a Church that is purified and radiant in her virtues. This is an exciting time for us as Catholics, as we enter a new stage of the history of our beloved Church, especially here in America.
